Farming
Farming is the best way to secure food for your society. You act as the planner while your Seedlings do the physical work. Farm fields can be placed anywhere on your owned plots, but not inside buildings or on "outdoor blocks" (paved areas). You can grow Wheat, Tomatoes, Corn, and Pumpkins (plus Herbs during onboarding).
Create the field: click on a plot you own and select Create Farm Field to enter farming mode, then place the field.
Plow: use Direct Control to have your Seedling plow the field to get it ready.
Plant: click the farm field and choose "Plant Seeds", pick your crop, then send your Seedling to plant. You must have the matching Seed Bag in your inventory or a nearby storage container.
Water: crops need Murky Water to grow. Find water deposits in nature and keep a steady supply in nearby storage so your Seedlings can water the fields.
Harvest: crops grow slowly from tiny sprouts to full-grown plants; once fully grown, assign a Seedling to harvest. Use the vegetables to cook high-quality meals and snacks. Check the Catalog for schematics that use your harvest.
Different crops have different needs: Tomatoes are the thirstiest (most frequent watering); slow-growing Wheat consumes the most water over its full cycle; Corn is moderate; Pumpkins need the least. If you run out of Murky Water, crops stop growing.
TIP: Before you log out, always check that your storage has enough Murky Water and your Seedlings have the right instructions, so the farm stays healthy while you're away.
