Harvesting is the best way to gather resources for survival. Send your Seedling to harvest through Direct Control by clicking on natural resources in the world and selecting the harvest action. Some resources require a machine to extract. Some harvestables also have a chance to yield a bonus drop on top of their normal resource. Harvest actions show your success chance in the context menu, and a failed harvest now yields nothing, so skill and preparation matter.

TIP: To make harvesting more efficient, save resource harvests to a Seedling's TODO List (right-click the resource > "Add to TODO list"). Without TODO items, Seedlings harvest less consistently. This is especially important if you set harvesting as a Scheduler priority: save the specific resources so your Seedling knows what to focus on. TODO harvesting is for natural resources (trees, stones, shrubs). Farm crops are managed from the Farming section instead.

Who Can Harvest Where

Any Seedling in a society can harvest natural resources from anywhere within that society's territory, regardless of whose plot the resource sits on. Harvesting is only blocked across societies. A Seedling cannot harvest in another society's territory.

When a resource is harvested, the pile drops on the ground at that plot and inherits the plot owner's ownership: on someone else's plot, it becomes their property. The harvester gets a short exclusive window to pick the pile up first; if they don't collect it in time, the pile is no longer accessible to them. This is why a Seedling can sometimes harvest something and then find it "belongs to someone else".

Note for employers: you can set harvesting as an employee job task, but only for resources located on your own business's property.
